What can I say? One Starbucks is like every other? No, not actually. While the general branding is the same, I love how each location really reflects and captures the heart of the neighbourhood. The flagship Yaletown location does just that.
Yaletown is host to a number of Starbucks shops, and they are very, very good. Not because the coffee necessarily tastes better or because the decor is more attractive. The people who staff the places are terrific- if a little aloof. Here, unlike many rural locations, one can order his grande no-whip Tazo Chai Blended Crème Frappucino caramel affogado style and no one will bat an eyelash. Elsewhere, there will be confusion, there will be panic, there will be the occasional tear and perhaps a free gift certificate because of the wait. Not here. So order away, be complex, give these ultra-professional folks a run for their money. They can handle it.

“There will be confusion and panic?” You can’t be serious! I’m a former Barista, and I currently order drinks that have pleanty of modifiers, and I’ve never experienced confusion like you mentioned as an employee OR a patron. Baristas are trained on all the menu items and on any possible variations that someone might toss their way. When there are no customers, Baristas will fill time with making up new drinks, hot and iced. There’s pretty much nothing a customer could possible order that a Barista would have trouble with, unless it’s within his or her first week, perhaps.
I’m glad you found a great spot where you feel comfortable ordering whatever crazy concoction you may be in the mood for, but please don’t think that everyone working outside of that store is just going to scratch her head when you ask for a Dirty Chai.
Isn’t beer just the best subject the whole world over?
Last night I came to the realization that I need to be purchasing a coffee bean grinder, but there’s so many different things to take into consideration, many of which I have never even heard of before, such as: How long does it take to grind the coffee beans? Can I grind a lot of beans at one time? Is the coffee bean grinder electric or manual? Is the coffee grinder a space saver? How many coarness levels does the grinder have, ie; fine, ultrafine or coarse, medium coarseness. How was the cost of a grinder? What is difference in the most expensive grinder to the less expensive grinders? Can you use any flavor of coffee to grind? Does the coffee bean grinder come attached to a coffee maker? Does the coffee grinder have a any type of timer- along with a automatic shut off?
